Denied

Well guys as much as I hoped for Chance to come home in June, I knew this is the answer we would get. He has been denied any extra half way house time. It always seems like you get the worse news when your already having a terrible day. Soooo ladies looks like I will be around for the bachelorette party.

Melanie,

How is Chance handeling this? I know that you are strong and will be fine with what ever is thrown your way. It so easy for them to become depressed when things like this happen to them.

I haven't gotten a single email or call from him since he told me. Hope he will get over it quick...It's just 90 more days, he's been this far so he can hang on just a little longer.

Melanie Sam shot basketball with Chance today and he told him about the denial. He was pretty pissed but seemed like he was going to be ok. Try not to worry.

Thanks Kim! At least I know he is not laying around depressed if he shot basketball with Sam.

Sorry Melanie, I know how disapointed you guys must be. I was really hoping it would work out for you. Hang on and try not to let BOP have the power to keep you down for too long.

That is too bad Melanie :( Look on the bright side though -- he is coming home THIS YEAR. I can't imagine how great that must feel even with this recent setback. What is the reason for the denial? The more I hear and the more I research, the more it seems the BOP can do whatever they want without any consideration of any kind for the inmates and their rights. It makes me sick to think what my husband's future holds after he is sentenced and completely in the hands of the BOP :(

Emily,

A lot of us got our hopes up when President Bush signed the Second Chance act of 2008 last April. It had a provision that at the descrectin of BoP they could increase HWH time from 10% or 6 months which ever is shorter upto 12 months. Apparently the staff at M'town had been telling chance that they were applying to have his increased from the current 10% he qualifies for to 6 months. Back in October the BoP made an official statement that they did not view additional HWH time as productive and were not changing the current policy. The act that was signed did not demand that they change the policy, just that they could. The have choosen not to. The second chance act of 2008 was more for the orginizations that work with the clients of HWH's other than the clients themselves. It released federal funds to those orginizations, to improve the services offered to the clients, supposedly.
