Back after HWH
I thought I would just share with everyone what is bothering us right now. Chance was in Bates (RDAP) for only a few weeks but he met alot of the guys there. Well they say you automatically get 6 months HwH if you complete RDAP. Apparently that isn't 100% true. One of the guys left for Hwh and just came back to Morgantown because he was unable to find a job within 30days. That has been the biggest fear for Chance and I because they have to keep a job even while on SR. Does anyone have any idea of what your guys will do for work when they come home.

Gavin will be working with his dad. Problem with that is, His work is 45 minutes from the closest hwh.
Mike has a job here locally, the HWH is 110 miles from here. If he goes to HWH he has to find a job there, before they will release him home. There are options as far as going to HWH, which I am not comfortable posting on here, as anyone can view this blog. Right now we are looking at him going to HWH for 58 days, we have pretty much been told that because we live so far away that he will not be released home before the 58 days as it would be too hard for them to keep up with him.
The guy that went back for not having a job, did get his 6 months HWH, he did not meet the requirements to stay there. That is what Mark was speaking to in M'town over new years. If you make it through the program the 6 months is mandatory and you have to meet all the requirements the entire 6 months. And guess what the guy that got sent back may have lost his year off for completing the program, too.
That's great you guys have a plan...We don't have the slightest idea of where Chance will be able to get a job. I guess that is part of the reason I am not going to give up the daycare but that too is just another problem since he won't be able to live here. I know this sounds crazy but I am more worried about him coming home than being there. Uhhhhhhh!
We are fortunate that Sam will be working for my dad also and his work and the HWH is about 15 minutes from our house. So hopefully our situation will work out.
Melanie,
What did Chance do before he went in?
He did construction during the day and managed at a bar in the evenings.
Okay, when he gets close to being released start picking up apps. for him. I have a feeling that those two professions may not be so hard to get jobs in as a felon. You guys will be able to get through this. He needs to apply for jobs just like he would have before, let them disqualify him, don't do it yourself before he even applies. Let him live with his Dad, rules and all, until he gets established in a career and can let you give up the daycare.
I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT STEVE WILL BE DOING. WE OWN OUR OWN BUSINESS, BUT NOT SURE HE CAN WORK FOR HIMSELF. HOPEFULLY WE WILL THINK OF SOMETHING SOON. STEVE IS 59 YEARS OLD, AND WILL TURN 60 SOON AFTER HE GETS OUT. PERHAPS A GREETER AT WALMART...WHO KNOWS...GOD WILL PROVIDE
sad thing is I don't even think Walmart will hire our non-violent men because they are felons.
LeeAnn,
Thanks so much for the phone call...I feel so much better after talking to you.
The employment issues are not going to go away until expungement is passed, we have to do something about this.
You are absolutely right...at some point everyone is going to run into some sort of issue because of their record...with the expungement there would be no worries.
