Good Time Bill
I am sure that most of you know about the "Good Time Bill" being introduced this Thursday March 5. I was just wondering how everyone feels about this, and if anyone here knows much about bills, how long they take to get through all of the committee's and such. The reason why I ask, is that my husband isn't going to get out until 2013 and we have a infant son. We aren't able to go see him as often and such. Even if he gets 1-2 years off. On the FEDCure site they say that hardly anyone knows about it and that these kinds of places are there for us and our loved ones. I guess I want to say, how do we get the word out, what are you doing to get the word out? Thanks.

We each need to contact our congress members and ask them to sponsor this bill. This is my take on this bill. Right now there is not enough sponosrship among the members of congress to get out of committee, just my gut feeling. while this is a good bill for those that have sentances of 5 years or more. Think about the big picture; this will get them home sooner, but they will still be felons. this is going to retrict their ability to get jobs, public housing, travel outside the us and many other issues. We need to also get sponsors for Rep. Rengals's bill for expungement for first time non-violent offenders. You can go to thomas.loc.gov and find out if your representives are sponsors of these bills.
This is a little off the record but are ex felons allowed to get passports?
Yes they can get a passport. Mark mentioned at the New Years meeting that restriction to British colonies are not approve dfor visa's. Most countries will not allow felons to immigrate.
Thank you. I have always been wondering about that. They need to give us a list of what He can and cant do now.
Some things are dependant on the state you live in, such as voting rights. International travel is up to the country you plan to visit, and then guns are banned by federal mandates. It is hard for them to give you a list when not one entity controls the list. That is why expungement is so important. Then none of that will matter.
